Ziff Davis Internet Debuts ExtremeTech

Posted on June 13, 2001

Ziff Davis Internet, a subsidiary of Ziff Davis Media Inc., has unveiled ExtremeTech, the first in a series of major new website launches planned by Ziff Davis for this year. ExtremeTech targets ``hardcore technologists'' and focuses on the technologies that power products.

``The site will be tightly integrated with other Ziff Davis Internet properties,'' said Wenda Harris Millard, President, Ziff Davis Internet. ``It will play an important role in our future as we focus our efforts on serving the information needs of specific enterprise audiences -- from IT professionals to business-decision-makers. This is the first of many sites we will launch as we continue to recognize the needs of our user audiences and advertising partners.''

ExtremeTech was built from the ground up expressly for ``hardcore techies,'' which Ziff Davis defines as those who have an insatiable appetite for the nitty-gritty, nuts-and-bolts of technology. ExtremeTech launches with a 30-member hand-picked editorial team headed by Bill Machrone -- a 19-year technology journalism veteran and former editor-in-chief of PC Magazine. The site features coverage of components, programming, software, networking, Internet and services. It includes news, reviews and testing results, analysis and benchmarking of products and services from the Ziff Davis technical labs. Moderated discussion forums with Ziff Davis specialists, polls and community discussion boards are also provided.

``ExtremeTech was born out of our experiences with PC Magazine readers,'' explains Machrone. ``The most technically savvy layer of this audience clamored for more information. We heard their calling and built this site to meet their needs. However, we're not stopping there. ExtremeTech is a 'high feedback environment' that gives users the opportunity to interact with our team. Over time, our users will help us shape its future direction.''
