2000 Audie Award Winners Announced at BEA

Posted on June 15, 2000

The Audio Publishers Association (APA) has announced the winners of the fifth annual Audie Awards, honoring excellence in audio publishing in 26 categories. This year 565 audiobooks, with release dates between January 1, 1999 and October 31, 1999, were submitted for consideration. Finalists and winners were selected by 95 judges recruited from all areas of the audiobook world.

The Audie Awards ceremony took place at Chicago's famed Field Museum on the eve of the first day of BookExpo America (BEA). At this elegant, black-tie gala, the Audie winners received engraved crystal awards. Such notables as Pat Schroeder, Tom Bodett, Bill Bryson, Martin Jarvis and George Guidall took part in the ceremony as winners and presenters.

The APA is a non-for-profit trade organization consisting of over 200 member companies including publishers, resellers, distributors, and suppliers along with other industries related to the production, promotion and sale of audiobooks. The mandate of the APA is to deal with the concerns of the industry; assure the ongoing production of high quality products; to initiate research and distribution of relevant data; and to nurture constructive relationships among the consumers, the resellers and the industry itself.
