Thomson Financial Media has announced the appointment of a new editorial leadership team for its flagship daily newspaper American Banker and American Banker.com. David Longobardi has been named Editor in Chief for the financial services daily and its related Web-based products. He will be joined by Kieran Beer, who will take on the role of Editor, and Richard Melville, who has been appointed Managing Editor.

Longobardi leaves his role a Group Publisher/Editorial Director at Securities Director Data Publishing, a division of the Thomson Financial Publishing Group. Previously, he was Editor in Chief of Securities Industry News and, before that, Editor of Waters Magazine. In his new position, Longobardi will be responsible for the content of the daily American Banker and its affiliated Web-based products.

As Editor, Beer will be responsible for managing American Banker's news-gathering resources. Previously Editor in Chief of The Bond Buyer, Beer has overseen the revamping of the daily newspaper for the municipal finance marketplace and was responsible for establishing The Bond Buyer Wire. Prior to joining The Bond Buyer, he launched Capital Markets Analyst, a weekly new-issues publication, for Securities Data Publishing. Beer was Executive Editor of Institutional Investor's Newsletter Division.

Richard Melville, who will become American Banker's Managing Editor at the end of this month, brings a strong background in both financial and technology journalism. He is a veteran of CNN, PC World and Reuters, where he served as Deputy Equities Editor and Wall Street Editor. He attended the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley.
