American Lawyer Media Launches Law Firm Inc. Magazine

Posted on February 14, 2003

American Lawyer Media, Inc. (ALM), a legal journalism and information company, announced the launch of a new quarterly magazine, Law Firm Inc., designed to provide law firms with information and advice on abusiness, operations and management issues. The first issue of Law Firm Inc. will be published in April with a target circulation of 20,000. The magazine will join ALM's 23 other national and regional legal magazines and newspapers, including The American Lawyer and The National Law Journal.

The magazine will address the growing challenges facing law firms in areas including financing, compensation, real estate management, purchasing and technology implementation. Law Firm Inc. will provide news, analysis, expert advice and case studies to assist decisionmakers at the largest U.S. and global firms. Other regular story topics will include insurance, outsourcing, recruiting, training, risk management and cost controls.

"The recent business problems and dissolution of Brobeck, Phleger, once the country's 14th largest law firm, illustrate how important operational management has become to success, and even survival, in the legal industry," said Kevin Vermeulen, publisher of Law Firm Inc. "Last year, the average revenues for an AmLaw 100 firm topped $350 million and large firms are now managing dozens of global locations with hundreds of employees. Lawyers have recognized that the complexity of running these businesses, as businesses, has increased geometrically over the past decade."

The four-color, standard magazine-sized publication will combine paid circulation with controlled distribution at the nation's largest law firms. Bonus distribution is planned for major industry meetings throughout the year, including the American Bar Association, Association of Legal Administrators and American Corporate Counsel Association annual meetings.
