The American Psychological Association's (APA) Consumer Help Center website, recently received two "Gold Awards" from the Health Information Resource Center, which recognizes the world's best health information being published on the Internet. Other award winners include American Lung Association, American Nurses Association, American Red Cross, and drkoop.com.

The APA Help Center, which was redesigned in early 1999, offers facts, tips and information on psychology in daily life, how therapy helps, as well as how to go about finding help for life's problems. Specifically, the website includes information about coping with job insecurity and workplace stress; family situations such as warning signs of youth violence or caring for elderly parents; and the mind-body connection, including coping with life-threatening or chronic illnesses.

Currently, the Help Center's most popular resource is the Warning Signs guide, which helps young people recognize when a classmate or friend might be a potential danger to themselves or others and how to cope with anger. The Warning Signs guide is also available as a printed brochure and can be obtained by calling 800-268-0078.

The American Psychological Association (APA), located in Washington, DC, is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States and is the world's largest association of psychologists. APA's membership includes more than 159,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students.
