Anita Busch Appointed Editor of The Hollywood Reporter

Posted on January 5, 1999

Veteran journalist Anita M. Busch will join The Hollywood Reporter in mid-January as editor, it was announced by Robert J. Dowling, publisher and editor-in-chief. Busch, who worked for the paper as a reporter in the early 1990s, will have full responsibility over the daily entertainment trade paper, which is now in its 69th year of publication.

"I am delighted to have someone of Anita's caliber come to the paper at this particular time," said Dowling. "The entertainment industry is changing rapidly, through technology and globalization. To stay ahead of the changes and report their relevance to executives in the business requires an instinct for the market, the dynamics of the people, and the foresight into how these changes will impact the industry. Anita possesses all of these talents."

Busch, 37, has been a journalist her entire professional career, covering virtually every segment of the entertainment industry. As a freelancer, she has recently written for The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Time, Premiere, Advertising Age and The Hollywood Reporter. She previously worked as a columnist for Entertainment Weekly and before that served three years as film editor of Daily Variety/Variety.

During her stint at Variety, Busch won the Cahners Gold Award for best reported news story of 1996. From 1990 to 1994, Busch worked at The Hollywood Reporter as a reporter covering film, business and entertainment marketing. Prior to that, she worked in Chicago as Midwest editor of Backstage/Shoot and as an associate editor at Advertising Age.

"Eight years ago, Bob Dowling brought me to Los Angeles and gave me my first job in entertainment journalism. Through the years, I have always felt his support and I have sincerely appreciated it," said Busch. "I have worked side by side with many of the editors and reporters here. There is a true camaraderie at this paper, and it's great to be back. We will continue to provide our readers with accurate, reliable news that is fair and balanced. I look forward to helping the paper grow in this rapidly changing industry."
