Boston Globe Subsidiary to Publish New Regional Magazine For Health Care Professionals

The Boston Globe announced that it will begin publication through a subsidiary of a new magazine directed to the nursing and allied health care professions.

On Call's premiere issue, scheduled for March 26 with a minimum of 24 pages, will have an initial estimated circulation of 80,000, and be distributed in three zones in eastern Massachusetts: North/Northwest to the New Hampshire border, West beyond Worcester county, and South to the Rhode Island border.

It will be delivered by direct mail and with selected home-delivery subscriptions of The Boston Globe newspaper to nurses, nurse practitioners, occupational and physical therapists, and related health professionals. The magazine's format will be 8 1/2 by 11 inches, published on glossy paper in full color. Content will be 60 percent editorial material and 40 percent advertising, with all editorial having a local and regional slant.

The managing editor of On Call will be Joseph Saling of Dedham, Mass., a medical writer and editor with 25 years experience specializing in consumer health. He has written extensively about wellness, disease management, mental health, men's and women's health issues, parenting and doctor-patient relationships.
