CMP's InternetWeek Website Debuts

Posted on August 27, 1997

CMP's InternetWeek has launched its website. Chief among InternetWeek's Web-based content is Today's News, which includes breaking stories and news roundups on networking products and technologies. Embedded in the site as a Java application, Today's News lets visitors explore news as they prefer--via scrolling headlines, brief article synopses, or full-story format. Today's News is updated frequently throughout the day.

Edge of the 'Net, another major component of the site, gives visitors a first-hand look at how newly-released Internet technologies and as-yet unavailable products can make Web sites more effective for business. This week, Edge of the 'Net gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the innovative technologies powering the InternetWeek site.

The site also features an extensive collection of product reviews, a comprehensive product and service database, business trend stories and an events database--all of which run as Java applets--as well as other programming, such as Internet News Radio audiocasts.

The InternetWeek Web site also has a private, members-only area exclusively for subscribers to the print publication. Highlights of the members-only area include: a customizable news report that is driven by Internet push, or "broadcast" technology; a daily email newsletter with news synopses; stock quotes and indices; a trade show and event directory; guru and gadfly columnists; and a comprehensive product review database. Initially all visitors to the site can try out the member-only area for free.

In the coming weeks the InternetWeek Web site will be outfitted with additional content, including a virtual store with logoed merchandise and also online chats and forums.

Update: Internet Week magazine was shut down in early 2012.
