Cygnus Business Media Acquires Officer.com

Posted on August 1, 2003

Cygnus Business Media, a business-to-business media company, has acquired Massachusetts-based Officer.com. The portal is the leading site serving the law enforcement community. Cygnus' media portfolio includes Law Enforcement Product News and Law Enforcement Technology, two publications already serving this marketplace.

Cygnus plans to build Officer.com like it built its fire and emergency services network. Its Firehouse.com portal is the most visited site on the Web for the fire and emergency services community with over 500,000 unique visitors each month.

"We will do for law enforcement with Officer.com what we've done for the fire, rescue and the EMS community with Firehouse.com," says Cygnus Business Media President & CEO Paul Mackler. "Our strategic business model successfully blends print, live and interactive media products into distinctive, integrated marketing offerings allowing our customers to reach thousands upon thousands of decision makers cost-effectively in each market we serve."

Officer.com launched in 1996 and is the leading website for the law enforcement industry with 130,000 unique visitors and 1.7 million page views monthly. The site currently offers news, forums, chat rooms and an online directory.

"Cygnus clearly has the resources, knowledge and experience to take Officer.com to the next level, and to further enhance this leading website for law enforcement professionals," said Officer.com owner James Meredith, himself a police sergeant in a large metropolitan city. "The strong support and collaboration that Officer.com will receive from Law Enforcement Technology and Law Enforcement Product News will be a valuable asset."

Mr. Meredith will stay on as a consultant. The site will be managed from Cygnus' College Park, Maryland offices.
