Cygnus Business Media to Launch VDV World Magazine

Posted on May 10, 2002

Cygnus Publishing, a division of Cygnus Business Media, a business-to-business media company, announced that it will launch VDV World magazine later this year. The publication will be devoted to the information needs of the commercial Voice/Data/Video (VDV) electrical contractor.

"With an intense demand for networking and information technology commercial installation, there is a clear need to provide VDV contractors with information and regulations affecting their market," says Cygnus Publishing President Rich Reiff. "Professionals are inundated with business news everyday and require an essential knowledge base like VDV World to help determine trends, upturns and declines in order to make their business successful."

According to St. Louis Commerce Magazine, 1999 industry statistics show that high-tech systems installations accounted for 33.5 percent of total electrical contracting volume or over $25 billion of the more than $76 billion in annual sales with steady growth of nearly 20 percent yearly.

VDV World will debut with a September/October issue reaching over 37,000 commercial communications contractors. The publication will be based in the Melville, New York offices of Cygnus Business Media under the direction of Group Vice President Katie Brennan and Group Publisher Ed Tyler. Publishing veteran Arnold B. Blumenthal who led the growth of Security Dealer magazine will be its publisher and editorial director.

"High tech communication systems are no longer a luxury for businesses, they have become a necessity in order to stay competitive," says VDV World Publisher Arnold B. Blumenthal. "Computer networking and high-speed Internet access are just a few of the services that VDV contractors provide with the market growing as new technology advances are introduced."

VDV contractors are licensed state by state to install low voltage applications and structured cabling, now the fastest growing segment of business for commercial electrical contractors and integrators. The networking of computers with scalable workstations can be accomplished with the use of structured cabling. Guidelines continue to be implemented and updated for installing low-voltage, limited energy, and optic fiber systems with a strong reliance on integrating OSHA standards and industry safety issues.
