Dan Pink's Advice Column Debuts on Guru.com

Posted on August 18, 1999

Dan Pink, an expert on the independent workforce and a freelancer himself, has been named Guru.com's new advice columnist. Pink has taken on the challenge of answering freelance questions in a weekly Dear Abby -- style advice column, "Ask Dan Pink". In today's Guru.com debut, Pink reassures a marketing consultant who is considering going back to his old job and gives sound counsel to an independent accountant who has started to date one of her clients.

While writing for Guru.com, Pink is also completing work on Free Agent Nation (William Morrow), a book inspired by Pink's 1998 Fast Company cover story about Americans who have abandoned traditional jobs to work on their own. Pink's opinions on the subject have generated an intense response. The New Yorker wrote that Pink had written "the most eloquent manifesto" for the end of loyalty in America.

"Working on the column and researching the book go hand in hand," says Pink. "Writing a column for Guru.com keeps my ear to the ground. I'm coming to better understand the concerns of freelancers -- their joys and their challenges. And, like thousands of others, I'm learning a great deal from the site itself. Guru.com has really great talent. They understand the psyche of the freelancer."
