Posted on October 26, 1998

PalmPilot computer users can now download and popular contemporary fiction and non-fiction books straight from publisher frontlists. The Peanut Press website, which goes live today, provides newly-published and reprinted books in a secure electronic format, including books such as Slant by Greg Bear and The Runelords by David Farland and other books from publishers such as Tor Books/St. Martin's Press, Avery Publishing Group, Council Oak Books, Aslan Publishing and Intrigue Press.

"We've had an incredible response from PalmPilot computer users since we announced the formation of our company just a few months ago," said Jeff Strobel, co-founder of Peanut Press. "We're thrilled to go live and announce that we'll be adding a variety of contemporary books on a weekly basis from here on out," Strobel continued.

"Specifically, over the next several months customers can expect to find such popular titles as A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge and Cheekie by Clarence Nero," said Mark Reichelt, co-founder of Peanut Press. "One title we're particularly excited about is Joe Hutsko's highly-touted new book, The Deal, which customers will be able to purchase and download at the Peanut Press site in December," Reichelt continued.

Peanut Press establishes partnerships with major publishers of hardcover and paperback books, obtaining the subsidiary rights to reprint their books for the Peanut Press proprietary reader software. Download time for the average Peanut Press book is about one minute on a 28.8 modem. The cost of the books will be competitive with their paper counterparts and range in price from about $7.99 to $14.99. Initially books will be available for purchase in the United States and Canada, and eventually available internationally.
