ESPN and Times Mirror Announce Agreement to Create Online Golf Resource

Posted on April 7, 1999

ESPN Internet Ventures (EIV) and Times Mirror Interzines (TMI) have entered into a unique agreement that would combine the two media companies' extensive resources to offer golf fans a comprehensive golf resource on the Internet via ESPN.com and Golf Magazine's GOLFonline.

Beginning with the PGA Tour's BellSouth Classic April 1-4 in Duluth, Ga. and continuing with this week's Masters, the combined resources of ESPN.com's golf section and GOLFonline.com will provide golf fans with a mix of golf news, statistics, analysis and feature content. Links on both sites will direct users to related content. The content offerings will receive generous promotion throughout ESPN.com and on ESPN's cable networks, as well as within Golf Magazine and other Times Mirror media properties.

"The marriage of ESPN.com and GOLFonline's assets translates into the Web's premier golf coverage," said Steve Zales, senior vice president and general manager, ESPN Internet Ventures. "This enables us to address the ever-growing popularity of the sport, all the while expanding the breadth of coverage provided by ESPN.com and ESPN Internet Ventures. We are anxious to take advantage of the opportunities made possible by our new relationship with GOLFonline."
