Facebook Adds Top Stories to News Feeds, Angers Users

Posted on September 21, 2011

Facebook has added top stories to its News Feed. The top stories are stories that have been published since your last Facebook visit that Facebook thinks you will find interesting. This is how Facebook determines what a top story is:

We determine whether something is a top story based on lots of factors, including your relationship to the person who posted the story, how many comments and likes it got, what type of story it is, etc. For example, a friend's status update that might not normally be a top story may become a top story after many other friends comment on it.
Facebook seems to have really angered some members based on the comments on its blog post about the new feature.

Facebook has a FAQ on the news feed changes here.

We aren't sure why Facebook won't just let its users decide how to arrange their feeds.
