Fawcette Technical Publications Launches Web Builder

Posted on June 9, 1998

Fawcette Technical Publications (FTP) announced the launch of Web Builder magazine, dedicated to the information needs of professional Internet development teams. Web Builder will launch this month with the July issue and an initial paid and qualified circulation of over 40,000.

Subscribers for the new title will be converted from Microsoft Interactive Developer (MIND), the magazine FTP owned and operated for two years. FTP will no longer use the name MIND, which was formed from FTP's trademark `Interactive Developer' coupled with Microsoft's company name. Under the mutual termination agreement, Microsoft is allowed to start a new magazine using the former FTP magazine title and logo.

"The launch of Web Builder reflects Fawcette's commitment to providing programming professionals with independent technical know-how to help them perform better in their jobs," said Paul Spyksma, Web Builder's Publisher. "Providing real-world technical content on corporate Internet development -- whether transaction application development, intranets, or extranets -- is an obvious extension of that mission." The audience for Web Builder is computer professionals creating business websites. The actual skills or areas of knowledge may vary widely among readers, but each possesses a high level of technical expertise. "With Web Builder, we're expanding our charter to deal with a greater range of technologies in multiple environments, both on the client and server sides," Spyksma added.

Web Builder will benefit from the editorial expertise of Mark Schlack, newly named Associate Publisher and Editor-in-Chief. Formerly the Editor-in-Chief of Byte magazine, Schlack "brings a strong reputation for editorial integrity, vision, and independence," according to Spyksma. "We're delighted to have someone of Mark's caliber."
