Hearst Magazines and IDG Form to Publish Cosmopolitan in China

Hearst Magazines and Boston-based publisher IDG announced a first-of-a-kind joint venture to publish Cosmopolitan in China through a partnership with Trends Lady magazine. The Chinese-language Cosmopolitan is the first U.S.-owned women's magazine published in China and Hearst Magazines' 35th Cosmopolitan edition worldwide. Cosmopolitan is the world's largest-selling magazine for young women with a world-wide readership of more than 36 million.

"We are excited to be offering Cosmopolitan in the Chinese marketplace," said George Green, president of Hearst Magazines International. "This is a unique publishing opportunity, and we feel the time is right, both from a circulation and advertising perspective, to enter the Chinese market."

Editorial content will include original local stories and international material, overseen by Editor-in-Chief Ms. Gao Xianhong in China and Helen Gurley Brown, editor-in-chief, Hearst Magazines International, Cosmopolitan editions, based in New York.

The trial issue (April edition) will be 168 pages with 30 advertising pages and have a print run of 100,000 copies. Major advertisers include Estee Lauder, Lancome, Ermenegildo Zegna, Omega, Dunhill, Cartier, L'Oreal, C.D., and Visa. The premier issue debuts in May. The magazine will appear on newsstands in Beijing and the rest of China beginning this week.
