Launches Literary Charity

Posted on December 17, 1999, a new website from Literary Charity, features yet-to-be-published works from well-known authors including Stephen E. Ambrose, Mary Higgins Clark, Jackie Collins, Stephen King, and David McCullough. Consumers make a donation of $1, $5 or $10 and read excerpts from the authors. All donations benefit Literacy Partners, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults learn to read. This fundraiser, sponsored and enabled by digital rights management company, Reciprocal, Inc., will run from December 15, 1999 until February 15, 2000.

Literacy Partners, a non-profit organization, teaches adults to read and write free-of-charge in tutorial and family literacy programs staffed by volunteers and professionals. As the flagship of a nationwide literacy program partnership, called the What Works Literacy Partnership (WWLP) and funded by the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund, Literacy Partners leads a pioneering effort to research, develop and disseminate the best program practices locally and nationally.
