Hungry Minds.com, an online learning portal, has announced the grand opening of People's University (People's U.), an online educational community that enables users to create, teach and participate in a variety of learning experiences developed by their peers. Contributors to People's U. will have the opportunity to own a personalized classroom site and use publishing tools to develop courses and promote their online learning experiences.

Hungry Minds.com also announced that it has chosen Blackboard Inc. to power the People's U. teaching and learning environment. People's U. will leverage Blackboard's software to offer course creators an environment for course development.

"People's U. gives visitors the opportunity to express themselves in new and creative ways, and we are pleased that Blackboard's renowned software will support the People's U. community," said Founder and CEO of Hungry Minds.com Stuart Skorman. "People's U. welcomes all ideas because Hungry Minds.com recognizes that there is a world of minds out there ready to learn."

The People's U. community offers a non-traditional learning environment with an open curricula and flexible attendance schedule. Within course templates, contributors can post lessons, white papers, stories and other digital content. Learning experiences located within People's U. will be created on a variety of topics such as, "How to Quilt," "Ballroom Dancing," "Jazz History" and "Inside the Criminal Mind."
