IDEAL Expands Its Electronic Journal Collection

Posted on December 3, 1999

Academic Press (AP) has announced that its electronic journal delivery system, known as IDEAL, will expand the number of titles it offers with the addition of 43 more journals published by Churchill Livingstone, W.B. Saunders Ltd, and Bailliere Tindall. In 1999, 17 journals from Churchill Livingstone and W.B. Saunders Ltd. became available on IDEAL. The 43 added journals will be available on IDEAL beginning in January 2000.

Churchill Livingstone and W.B. Saunders Ltd. are medical publishing imprints that operate as part of Harcourt Health Sciences, a division of Harcourt, Inc., a global education and information company. Academic Press is also a division of Harcourt, Inc.

The IDEAL library contains over 200 journals with 150,000 articles from 11,000 journal issues including journal backfiles available from 1993 to the present. Supporting IDEAL is a consortia licensing program, known as the Academic Press Print and Electronic Access License (APPEAL), which was introduced in 1996. Current IDEAL subscribers have the option to add the new Churchill Livingstone and W.B. Saunders Ltd. journals to their existing APPEAL contracts.

"We are delighted to be able to join forces with our colleagues at Academic Press to work with them on IDEAL," said Peter Shepherd, Head of Journals Publishing for Harcourt Health Sciences Europe. "This now brings to 60 the number of Harcourt Health Science journals in the IDEAL collection, including the European Heart Journal, the British Journal of Cancer, the British Journal of Plastic Surgery, the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery and the Journal of Hand Surgery."
