James Helin Named President of L.A. Times California Edition

James D. Helin has been named president of a new California Edition of the Los Angeles Times that is expected to launch later this year.

Helin is responsible for developing and implementing the edition's marketing, distribution and advertising strategies. He reports to Jeffrey S. Klein, The Times' senior vice president of consumer marketing and general manager, news. Helin will work closely with Times Managing Editor John Arthur, who is overseeing development of the edition's editorial content.

Helin also assumes business responsibility for The Times' Washington Edition, a 24-page streamlined version of the paper that is produced Monday through Friday and is distributed primarily in Washington, D.C., and New York City. The edition has a circulation of 3,000.

The Los Angeles Times publishes four daily regional editions covering the Los Angeles metropolitan area, Orange County, Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley. The newspaper operates 22 foreign, nine national and five state news bureaus, including bureaus in Sacramento, San Francisco, Fresno, San Bernardino/Riverside and San Diego.
