Posted on August 4, 1998

Lycos, Inc., announced that it has acquired Sunnyvale, Calif.-based GuestWorld, a provider of free online guestbook services, for $3.9 million. GuestWorld's guestbook service allows visitors to register and comment on a person's homepage and automatically compiles visitors' e-mail addresses, making it easy for a homepage owner to stay in touch with guests, respond to comments, and inform them of site updates. GuestWorld is now the exclusive provider of guestbook services on Lycos' Tripod, and will also continue to be available for free to homepage builders across the Web at http://guestworld.tripod.lycos.com/.

"The GuestWorld acquisition represents the latest enhancement to Lycos' growing pool of homepage building tools and further distinguishes the Lycos network as the premier Web community," said Bob Davis, president and CEO of Lycos. "This is another significant step in the Lycos move to be the leading online service."
