Marvel Launches Internet Entertainment Service

Posted on February 17, 1998

Marvel Interactive announced the opening of the Marvel Zone, an Internet subscription service featuring entertainment programming available only to subscribers of the Marvel Zone and free of charge to members of America Online. The Marvel Zone plans to challenge its members to submit their creations to the company. The announcement was made by Paul Kallis, Senior Vice President, Marvel Interactive, a division of the Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc.

Internet users are welcome to a free 30-day trial of the Marvel Zone by signing up at marvelzone.com. The Marvel Zone is being offered to Internet users at $3.95 per month or $34.95 per year and to America Online members, where it will be available at no extra cost at Keyword: Marvel Zone.

"In 1961, Marvel revolutionized the comics industry with a wholly new vision of what it meant to be a Super Hero. Since then, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk and the X-Men have become world renowned icons," Kallis said. "Now with the millennium quickly approaching, the Marvel Zone promises an entirely new entertainment experience accessible to a global audience -- one that features our unique characters and storytelling rendered via cutting edge technology. The cyber wing of the House of Ideas is officially open for business to subscribers and AOL members."

Note: The Marvel Zone site is longer available.
