Mecklermedia Launches Internet.Com Site With Expanded Daily News

Posted on June 4, 1997

Mecklermedia has unveiled Internet.com, a Web site that provides news and information resources for the Internet community. Internet.com is already one of the largest content sites on the Web, generating more than 5.4 million page views in March. The site features a collection of newswires, directories, buyers' guides and tutorials for Internet industry professionals, developers and users.

Mecklermedia also recently announced its acquisition of the Java Boutique Web site ( http://www.javaboutique.com ). Java Boutique is a leading directory of Java Applets available to the Web developers for use on Web sites. It currently houses more than 100 working Applets, along with instructions for downloading and including them in other Web pages.

Mecklermedia will announce plans later this week regarding the expansion of the WebDeveloper.com area of Internet.com. Mecklermedia acquired the Internet.com domain name last month. Internet.com was previously known as iWORLD. iWORLD, which was launched in 1995, was one of the first sites exclusively devoted to providing information and resources about the Internet. Mecklermedia has retained the iWORLD name and users can still access the site by using that URL.

"The acquisition of the Internet.com domain name and the site's subsequent expansion and reorganization is another important step in our strategy to dominate the market as the leading provider of Internet information," said Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of Mecklermedia.

The news pages of Internet.com, available at http://www.internetnews.com have been expanded to include Internet-specific news in several categories: Internet Business News, Developer News, E-Commerce News, International News, Product News and Internet-related news from Reuters. InternetNews.com also features reporting from Internet Stock Report, a daily analysis of Internet industry stocks, and Internet Advertising Report, which covers the burgeoning Web advertising market. Stories featured by InternetNews.com are created by Internet.com's own news staff and the journalists of Mecklermedia's print magazines -- Internet World Magazine, Web Week, and Internet Shopper.
