Metropolitan Life Foundation Funds Expansion of PBS Online's Health Education Resources

Metropolitan Life Foundation has awarded a grant of $150,000 to PBS Online to expand the number and quality of online resources available for health education in K-12 classrooms. The initiative will provide both health curriculum and professional development resources, which teachers will access through PBS TeacherSource, PBS Online's neighborhood for preK-12 educators.
PBS's content will provide the basis for the development of curricular materials. These educational resources will then be grouped by grade, general health area, and specific health topic, as well as cross-referenced to several state and national health education and skill standards. Other resources developed as part of this initiative will provide "just in time" support to busy educators, such as articles tied to best practices in health education, recommended books and websites keyed to health topics, and interdisciplinary connections to monthly themes.
"PBS is deeply committed to providing resources that will help students make informed choices about their health," said Cari Ladd, director of online education at PBS. "Thanks to this generous grant from Metropolitan Life Foundation, PBS will now be able to reach more teachers with more of the best health education resources."
