MTV Wants to Rate Professors

Posted on February 1, 2007

MTV is acquiring the RateMyProfessors website. CNET reports that the service will become part of MTV's mvtU.com website.

CNET says, "The deal represents the company's goal to grows its college student market "on-air, online and on campus," the company said in a statement. In August 2006, MTV Networks bought Y2M: Youth Media & Market Networks, the parent company of College Publisher, an online college newspaper network. Since then, College Publisher has grown to include 500 online college newspapers."

The professors ratings include information like how easy the course is, how helpful the instructor is, whether attendance is mandatory, what textbooks are used, etc. RateMyProfessor even has a hottest professors category. Not everyone likes the website and one professor even turned the tables on the website by letting professors rate students on his blog.
