Posted on July 17, 1997

The Promising Young Writers book recognizes winners of the program which was established to stimulate and recognize eighth grade students' writing talents and to emphasize the importance of writing skills. Eighth grade students who are nominated by their school may participate in the Promising Young Writers Program. This year, 1,308 students were nominated for the program. From that, 359 students were winners and received a Certificate of Recognition.

"We congratulate all of the Promising Young Writers who participated in the program," said Cathie Weinberg, spokesperson for Olive Garden. "A program such as this one inspires young writers and sends a positive message to students about sharing ideas through writing."

As part of its commitment to young writers, Olive Garden has created Pasta Tales, an annual national essay writing contest that recognizes young writers ages 7 to 16. Pasta Tales runs from October 6 through December 1, 1997. Information will be available beginning October 6 at local Olive Garden restaurants or by calling 954-776-1999.
