Penguin Putnam Announces Publishing Agreement with Grove Atlantic

Posted on September 6, 2002

Susan Petersen Kennedy, President of Penguin Putnam, has announced an agreement with Grove Atlantic to publish select Grove Atlantic hardcovers in paperback under the Penguin and Signet imprints. Mrs. Kennedy made the agreement earlier this year with Morgan Entrekin, President and Publisher of Grove Atlantic.

The first title published under the agreement is Four Blondes by Candace Bushnell. This Signet paperback is presently #13 on The New York Times bestseller list with over 700,000 copies in print. In 2003 Penguin is expected to publish several titles, including John Lawton's critically acclaimed Block Out, timed to coincide with the January publication of Morgan Entrekin's Lawton novel, Old Flames. Evoking the intrigue of the Cold War and 1950s London, Old Flames is a thrilling spy novel that British reviewers have compared to the work of Graham Greene and Len Deighton.

"I am delighted to be working with Morgan," said Kathryn Court, President and Publisher of Penguin. "It's a perfect match for both our houses. Morgan and I share very similar taste and this arrangement offers us a great new opportunity to find some terrific authors for Penguin."

Morgan Entrekin said, "I am very excited about our new partnership with Penguin Putnam. I have great regards for Susan and Kathryn and I think we've come up with a creative way to add to both our publishing programs. I have been an avid reader of thrillers, mysteries, and espionage novels for years but always felt that I needed a paperback partner to publish effectively in this area. John Lawton is a terrific addition to both our lists and we will launch him with an aggressive, coordinated marketing campaign this winter."

Penguin Putnam is one of the leading U.S. adult and children's trade book publishers, owning a wide range of imprints and trademarks including Berkley Books, Dutton, Frederick Warne, G.P. Putnam's Sons, Grosset & Dunlap, New American Library, Penguin, Philomel, Riverhead Books and Viking. The Penguin Group is owned by Pearson plc, the international media group.
