Penton Media has announced it has acquired Multimedia Week from Phillips Publishing, Inc. The publication will be produced by Jon Peddie Associates (JPA), a division of Penton's Electronics Group. Multimedia Week is an insider newsletter covering the business of multimedia.

"This acquisition extends and complements our growing coverage of the digital media market," said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of JPA. "An increasing number of our clients look to us for information regarding the impact of digital media developments. The acquisition of Multimedia Week gives JPA a focused forum for covering these topics."

Multimedia Week will continue to operate as an independent, subscription-only, weekly publication and the basic format will remain the same. Coverage will be expanded to include IPOs and venture capital tracking, product and technology spotlights, ongoing coverage of new and emerging convergence technologies, market data, and related issues. Guy Wright, former technical editor of Interactivity magazine, will be the new editor-in-chief. The publication will be produced from JPA's Tiburon, California offices.

"Today, with the convergence of multiple technologies - video, audio, graphics, television, and the Internet - it is more important than ever to know what's going on, what is important, and how it is going to influence business in the coming years," said Wright. "By compiling the most important, relevant information and putting it into the proper perspective, Multimedia Week will continue to be an essential tool for professionals who need a clear understanding of today's technology and insight into the future."
