Petersen Publishing Company has acquired three sports titles from Harris Publications, Inc. Slam Magazine, Slam Presents, and Blitz. The announcement was made by The Petersen Companies, Inc. Chairman and CEO, James Dunning Jr. The three new acquisitions will be part of the current seven title Petersen Sport Group. The complete editorial and sales staff of the three acquired publications will remain independent and continue to publish the magazines out of the New York-based Harris Publications offices.

On making the announcement Petersen's Chairman and CEO James Dunning, Jr. said, "Think of it, America's #1 selling newsstand sports magazine and, that's with a cover price or $4.50 joining Petersen. You couldn't find a more vital and growing magazine to round out the Petersen Sport Group. We also envision radio, television programming and licensing opportunities for Slam, which is a perfect fit in our overall multi-media marketing solutions strategy for advertisers."

Slam, launched in 1994 as the "In Your Face Basketball Magazine" currently publishes 8 issues a year. The publication focuses on the NBA, college, high school and playground basketball, as well as all basketball gear. Slam Presents are special issues of Slam devoted to single-subjects -- the first special issue was a ground-breaking tribute to Michael Jordan, which came out in October, 1997. Blitz, the "In Your Face Football Magazine," is an annual football publication focusing on the NFL, college and high school football.
