Primedia Launches New Teen Magazine

Posted on July 26, 1999

Primedia Consumer Magazines has announced the launch of entertainmenteen, a new entertainment magazine focused on teenagers between 12-15 years old. Entertainmenteen's editorial mission is to spotlight teen celebrities as real life role models and peers, effectively telling the behind the scenes stories of their private and professional successes, failures, issues and dilemmas.

``Primedia is the authoritative source and information provider to and for teens in the U.S.,'' said David Tanzer, president and chief executive officer of Primedia Consumer Magazines. ` `Entertainmenteen fills an untapped niche in the teen marketplace, offering younger readers unique insights and life lessons from peers, who just happen to be their favorite stars. Our experience in this market has shown that 12-15 year olds have their own set of distinct wants and needs currently unfulfilled by what's on the market today. We believe entertainmenteen can uniquely satisfy those wants and needs. Further, we are confident entertainmenteen will serve as a complement to our many teen titles and provide a strong introduction to flagship Seventeen.''

The initial issue of entertainmenteen will have a print run of 800,000 copies and be distributed by Murdoch Magazines Distribution to 150,000 locations nationwide, with a two-month on-sale period through October. Entertainmenteen is a product of Primedia's Youth Entertainment Group. The premier issue features Justin Timberlake of `NSync on the cover, a list of ``101 Wild Things To Do This Summer,'' ```NSync and the Backstreet Boys Insider Secrets,'' a photo exclusive of Britney Spears shopping for tour clothes, summer tour schedules and a contest. Primedia will publish a second issue of entertainmenteen in October 1999 and plans to increase frequency over time.

The publication will be overseen editorially by Hedy End. End is a long-time veteran of the teen world having worked previously as editorial director of 16 magazine and currently is editor in chief of SuperTeen and 16 superstars.
