Random House Children's Publishing and First Book have partnered to create the Reading Hero Awards, a program to honor the inspiring work of teachers, tutors, mentors, and volunteers throughout the nation, who have made a difference in the literacy lives of children, it was announced by Harold Clarke, President of Random House Children's Publishing and Kyle Zimmer, President of First Book. The Reading Hero Award will be an annual award, given six times a year, beginning in September and running through March. Each month's Reading Hero will receive a $1000 worth of Random House books and will be highlighted in their communities through a targeted media outreach campaign.

"There are countless unsung heroes who do incredible work to help children learn to love reading and I am honored to be working with a noble organization like First Book to pay tribute to them with this program, said Harold Clarke. "It is important to me as a publisher and a parent to recognize these important individuals."

Monthly Reading Heroes will be selected by a committee made up of representatives from both organizations. Nominations for the award can be sent to First Book, 1319 F. Street, N.W., Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20004.
