REI.com, Outside Magazine Announce Online Partnership

Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) and Outside magazine have announced an online partnership with their respective websites, REI.com and Outside Online. The alliance will leverage REI.com's online selection of outdoor gear and clothing and Outside's award-winning editorial content. The partnership launch will coincide with the redesign of Outside magazine's website in June 1999.

"The collaboration of two industry-leading outdoor companies will be a win for outdoor enthusiasts," said Matt Hyde, REI's vice president of online sales. "REI.com continuously looks for ways to bring our customers a better online experience, and our far-reaching partnership with Outside is a way for both companies to do so by sharing technology, content, customers and commerce."

Said Outside's Amy Marr, executive director of online, "The high quality of REI's services and products will enhance Outside Online's content and live up to the high expectations of our online audience. The addition of REI product prizes has generated lots of excitement among the growing ranks of our daily trivia challenge participants. We're looking forward to watching the REI-Outside relationship grow from this initial work together, which will include a store, message boards and postcards."
