Samuel Adams Announces Short Story Contest

Posted on May 23, 1997

Samuel Adams will send one talented writer to the first annual Zoetrope Short Story Writers' Workshop in Belize this July. The workshop will be hosted by Zoetrope: All Story, a short story magazine published by one of our newest literary godfathers, Francis Ford Coppola. Deadline for the 5,000-words-or-less entries is June 23rd.

Boston Beer Company (NYSE: SAM), brewers of Samuel Adams beers, and Zoetrope: All Story are teaming up to publicize the Sam Adams Short Story Contest, which will be promoted in bars and restaurants in June, as well as at the Nantucket Film Festival, June 17-23, an event also sponsored by Samuel Adams. Contest rules will appear in a full-page ad on the back cover of the June issue of Zoetrope: All Story.

The winner of the Sam Adams Short Story Contest will fly to Blancaneaux Lodge, Coppola's resort hideaway in Belize, in the heart of Central America, to explore the art of short story writing with workshop leaders Amy Bloom, Adrienne Brodeur, Sara Powers, and Daniel Voll. The scholarship shall be awarded based on the quality of the short story entered in the contest. The Zoetrope Writers' Workshop will take place from July 8-15, and includes workshop materials, lodging and meals, and guided tours of this tropical paradise.
