Seattle to Raise Minimum Wage to $15/Hour

Seattle's city council has voted to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. This will be the highest minimum wage in the nation. The state of Washington is currently the state that also has the highest minimum wage at $9.32/hour.

CNN reports that the International Franchise Association has threatened to sue the city. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer has rounded-up some of the political reactions to the wage hike.

Consumerist reports that the new rate will begin being phased in January, 2015. Smaller companies have longer to comply and won't actually reach the $15/hour mark until 2021. CNN's Alison Kosik says the $15 mark matches a rate fast food workers have been campaigning for nationwide. Take a look:
