Sports Illustrated Women Ceases Publication

Posted on October 18, 2002

Time Inc. announced that it is ceasing publication of Sports Illustrated Women magazine after the December issue. Sports Illustrated Women launched in March 2000. Its current circulation rate base is 400,000. Time Inc. also recently announced it will cease publication of Mutual Funds magazine. Magazine publishers have been making cutbacks and ceasing titles because of the weak advertising climate.

Time said efforts will be made to place the 45 staffers at Time Inc. or at another AOL Time Warner division. Severance packages and outplacement services will be made available.

In making the announcement, Ann Moore, Chairman and CEO of Time Inc., said, "SI Women was smart, interesting and attractive. Indeed, although we had some of our best and brightest people working on it, SI Women needed a significant investment to reach its potential. The investment climate was simply not on our side."
