Susan Edgerley Named Executive Editor of The New York Times News Service

Susan Edgerley has been named executive editor of The New York Times News Service. The News Service transmits hundreds of stories daily from The New York Times and partner newspapers to more than 650 clients in more than 50 countries.

Edgerley, formerly city editor of The New York Times, joins the News Service as it enters a new era. This fall, the newspaper launched its most dramatic enhancements in 20 years, including daily color, new sections and innovative beats. The News Service, keeping pace with the even bigger, more dynamic Times, is expanding and deepening its own franchise.

Joe Lelyveld, executive editor of The Times, says, "Susan will be responsible for nurturing our relations with our clients, our potential clients and partners and for upgrading the performance of what is already recognized as a premier service."

One big challenge is that as The Times has pushed its deadlines back, News Service clients across the country sometimes must wait longer for stories. "I'm committed to getting copy to clients as early as possible," Edgerley says. "My top priority is to coordinate with The Times' newsroom. Having spent some time there, I know how to help get things moving to the benefit of all of us."
