TechTarget Acquires Information Security Magazine

Posted on August 1, 2003

TechTarget announced that it has acquired Information Security magazine from Herndon, VA-based TruSecure, a security intelligence and services provider, which started the publication in 1997. Information Security is a monthly magazine distributed to a qualified, controlled circulation of 67,500 IT security professionals.

"TechTarget has become the fastest growing IT media company by providing the most targeted IT media and events for IT advertisers," said TechTarget CEO Greg Strakosch. "Information Security fits precisely with TechTarget's model. Our acquisition of the premier IT security publication, to accompany our leading security properties -- the SearchSecurity.com website and the Security Decisions conference -- will only enhance the power of our integrated advertising offerings. We're pleased that the talented staff of Information Security will be part of making that happen."

The magazine's publisher and editorial team join TechTarget's newly formed Security Media Group, holding editorial, operational, and sales responsibility for TechTarget security media and events, including Information Security, the SearchSecurity.com website, and the Security Decisions conference. The Security Media Group will be modeled after TechTarget's Storage Media Group, which manages editorial, operations, and sales for Storage magazine, the SearchStorage.com website, and the Storage Decisions and Storage Management conferences. Kevin Beam, currently vice president and publisher, TechTarget Storage Media, will assume additional responsibilities for the TechTarget Security Media Group.

Information Security publisher Timothy Garon will remain in that role at TechTarget. A media veteran with more than 17 years' experience in magazine publishing, editing, and production, Garon is also a recognized expert on information security. Garon has authored numerous articles on security for such publications as Fortune, InfoSecurity News, and Telecommunications Security Newsletter.

Information Security editor in chief Andrew Briney will keep his role as editorial director, Information Security, with overall responsibility for the magazine's editorial content. Briney is the author and lead analyst of Information Security's annual Industry Survey, now in its sixth year.
