The American Experience Online Covers Ronald Reagan's Rise To The Presidency

The American Experience Onlne, the innovative Web site of PBS's award-winning history series, continues to update and enhance an interactive Web feature, "The Presidents," to accompany the broadcast of a series of presidential profiles airing on PBS this February.

The latest additions to the site, located at PBS ONLINE at http://www.pbs.org/presidents, give Web surfers the chance to explore: Presidential politics­describing campaigns and issues that shaped each featured presidency; Thematic timeline­highlighting social, political, economic, and cultural events to provide historical context and put each featured president in perspective; Presidential profiles­examining each of the featured President's early years, rise to prominence, political campaigns, and time in office.  Profiles of Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon  Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan are posted online and;

Special features including streaming audio, a virtual tour and a presidential screen-saver, allowing Web surfers to see, hear, and experience twentieth-century political campaigns online.

A special educators' site integrated into "The Presidents" site includes classroom projects, primary source materials, interactive student activities, a select index of program segments illustrating key concepts, an annotated bibliography, and links to other relevant Web sites (such as the Library of Congress's new digital library). It encourages students to explore a variety of issues: diplomacy, defense, civil rights, labor, and social welfare.
