TheStreet.com Extends Brand with Conference Company Acquisition and Doubleday Book Deal

Posted on April 28, 2000

TheStreet.com, a Web-based provider of financial news and commentary, has announced plans to expand into two additional media through its acquisition of BigFish Management, Inc., a leading conference and event production firm that will create investment conferences under TheStreet.com name, and the forthcoming publication of a new investing book from TheStreet.com to be released by Doubleday.

``Both the BigFish acquisition and the publication of the investing book will help us to reach a broader base of new users and introduce them to today's best source of up-to-the-minute financial news, commentary and information,'' said Thomas J. Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of TheStreet.com. ``While the Web is our core content-distribution medium, we've moved into television, wireless, and other media already, and these new expansions into books and conferences are a natural next step in our brand development.''

BigFish and its president and CEO Sondra Wells have produced more than 35 conferences and corporate events around the world. Seattle-based BigFish will begin producing a variety of investment conferences under TheStreet.com name later this year in several U.S. cities. The transaction will be completed with a mixture of cash and stock. Under the terms of the agreement, which is scheduled to close in May, TheStreet.com will purchase 100% of the outstanding stock of the company. In addition, Wells has agreed to a multi-year employment contract with TheStreet.com.

The investment book, to be published by Doubleday & Company early next year, will be a basic investment guide for stocks, taking into account the enormous changes that the Internet/information economy has wrought in the financial world. Dave Kansas, who will author the book together with other writers from TheStreet.com, is Editor-in-Chief, Executive VP and Chief Strategic Officer of TheStreet.com.
