Tribune Interactive Announces Career Resource for Young Adults
Posted on August 6, 1999Tribune Interactive, Tribune Company's newly formed business group, has announced the creation of a business unit to develop national, Web-based products and services for the young-adult market. In September, the Chicago-based unit will launch thepavement.com, a career-building service for young adults ages 20 to 26. John Twohey, director/new-product development for Tribune Company, has been named general manager of thepavement.com.
The mission of thepavement.com will be to help consumers with the transition from college life to the workplace. The service will provide users access to a national database of entry-level and early-career job opportunities and will offer other products and services to help young adults address work-life needs, including apartment-hunting and relocation, car-buying and money management.
"We're calling thepavement.com a career-building service, but its scope will go far beyond what's offered by more generic career sites," says Jeff R. Scherb, Tribune Interactive president. "We'll help consumers locate apartments, buy cars and manage their money. After all, making a successful move from school to the real world is more than just finding a job, it's achieving independence in other ways."
