Upside Media Inc., publisher of Upside magazine and UpsideToday, has announced an expansion of its print and online staff with the appointments of five editors to Upside magazine, and the planned addition of approximately 18 new writers for UpsideToday.

Galen Gruman joins Upside magazine as executive editor. Gruman was previously West Coast bureau chief for Computerworld. Gruman reports to Adrian Mello, editor-in-chief of Upside magazine.

Allyson Bates joins the magazine as contributing editor, responsible for tracking industry trends and editing feature articles. After a stint as senior editor at CIO magazine, Howard Baldwin joins Upside as features editor. Cameron Crotty, familiar as an Upside contributing writer, joins the magazine full-time as senior features editor. Deborah Branscum, who has covered technology for such publications as Newsweek, The New York Times and Yahoo! Internet Life, joins as senior contributing editor.

Upside Media will strengthen its online presence in the coming weeks with the addition of approximately 18 new writers, editors and Web designers. UpsideToday is also establishing bureaus in Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, and Raleigh, N.C., in addition to expanding its New York City bureau. To accommodate staff expansion in its San Francisco headquarters, UpsideToday is moving into its own office in January, effectively doubling its current space.

"The demand for Upside's insights into the world of technology is booming and we are responding to this by radically increasing our coverage," said David Bunnell, CEO and editor of Upside Media Inc. "Upside existed before there was a new economy, and now we find ourselves right in the middle of the greatest economic expansion of all times."
