Posted on October 23, 1997

Upside Media, Inc., and TechNews, Inc., a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company, today announced the formation of a cooperative alliance. The two companies, which are both magazine and online publishers, said the arrangement would include joint sponsorship of industry conferences, shared editorial resources, circulation development support, as well as collaboration on advertising sales projects and online/web activities.

Since 1989, Upside Media has published Upside, the monthly business magazine covering the people, technology, and capital shaping the digital industry. TechNews publishes Washington Technology and Integration Management magazines, two leading trade publications on government and commercial systems integration, and TechCapital Magazine, which covers technology industry finance and investment issues.

The two companies plan to work together in a number of areas, according to Andrew Jacobson, President of TechNews. "When we sat down to assess a possible alliance, the list of potential cooperative activities -- from editorial to circulation to advertising -- was tremendous," Jacobson said. "We're very pleased with the opportunity to be able to work with such a creative company, with strong ties to Silicon Valley."
