Web Resumes Generating Sales Pitches

Posted on October 7, 2007

Resumes that people post on job websites are not always generating job leads. All too often these resumes result in unwanted sales pitches.

A Gazette.com story described people how have posted resumes and then received unwanted responses. One person received mortgage refinancing deals in addition to unsolicited and unwanted job offers..

This person turned Morgan Stanley in to the Massachusetts Secretary of State William F. Galvin. The firm and several employees were charged with violations of privacy rules.

This resume poster found a way to fight back but many may not be able to find an outlet for their frustration at receiving sales pitches instead of jobs. This isn't why people put their resumes online. People using resume sites seem to be under the gun lately.

Recently, Monster.com was hacked and data from over 1.6 million users was stolen. The USAJobs.gov website has also been hit by the same malware (Infostealer.Monstres) that stole date from the Monster.com website. Resume databases are very valuable and they need to be protected from both phishers and spammers as well as from marketers.
