William B. Huff is Named President of The Boston Globe

William B. Huff, executive vice president and chief financial officer of The Boston Globe, has been named president of the newspaper by a vote of the board of directors of Globe Newspaper Company, it was jointly announced today by Globe Publisher and COO Benjamin B. Taylor and Chairman and CEO William O. Taylor. The appointment is effective January 1, 1998.

Huff, 47, succeeds as president Benjamin B. Taylor, 50, who became publisher of the Globe in April and who had been president since July 1, 1993. Huff, who retains the post and responsibilities of chief financial officer, will report to Taylor and assist him in the day-to-day operations of New England's largest circulation newspaper.

"Bill Huff has been a significant part of the Globe's success over the last 20 years," said Benjamin Taylor, "and he will continue to bring a keen financial eye and operational expertise to our business in his role as president."

"Bill's appointment as president," said Chairman and CEO William O. Taylor, "adds great strength to an already strong senior management team that will help the Globe grow for years to come."

Huff has been the Globe's CFO since 1989 and an executive vice president since 1992. A 20-year veteran of the company, he joined the Globe's then-parent company, Affiliated Publications Inc., in 1976 as an internal auditor and served as controller from 1982-1989. He was named a vice president in 1986. Prior to joining Affiliated Publications, he worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Boston.

A Wayland, Mass. resident, Huff is a 1968 graduate of the Groton School, a 1972 graduate of Bowdoin College, and a 1974 graduate of the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified PUblic Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of CPA's, the Financial Executives Institute and the Treasurers Club of Boston.
