William Norwich Joins The New York Times Magazine

William Norwich has joined The New York Times Magazine in the newly created position of Entertaining editor. He will report directly to Amy M. Spindler, Style editor of the Magazine. In his position, Norwich will edit a new supplement "Style and Entertaining," which will debut November 5, 2000. He will also edit entertaining features for the regular weekly magazine beginning Sunday, February 13, 2000.

Style and Entertaining will join the other Part 2 sections of the Magazine-- Women's Fashions of The Times, Men's Fashions o f The Times and Home Design--as a twice-yearly publication. "For the first time, Billy's vast knowledge of style, home design and social anthropology will shape a magazine," Spindler says. "He'll approach entertaining as we do fashion, with wit, intelligence and a sharp journalist's mind."

Norwich has been a contributor to Fashions of The Times, the editor-at-large at Vogue magazine and an editor-at-large at Conde Nast House & Garden. He wrote an around-the-town column for The New York Daily News until 1991, and then wrote a similar column for the New York Post until 1993. His "Style Diary," a report on fashion, interior design and manners, appears weekly in the New York Observer. His novel, Learning to Drive, was published by Grove/Atlantic in 1996. A children's book he wrote, Molly and the Magical Dress, will be published by Random House in the fall of 2000.
